This book is excellent for people who are worried there is "something wrong with them" when they get bored by routines or seem to have too many passions to follow in one lifetime. It demonstrates that people are different, but not necessarily better than or worse, than each other based on their comfort level with stability and routine. The author is enthusiastic about people who like to learn new skills or who find themselves constantly fascinated with learning or doing different things. And, that is very comforting. The biggest real problem is that the author doesn't seem to realize that there is such a thing called "real life." She encourages people to follow their passions at all times, even making sure to find "jobs" that, while they aren't directly involved with that passion, provides skills that will lead the reader toward a passion. There are passages (for example) when she thinks it is wonderful that a person who has sweated and paid for years for a law degree suddenly decides that they should have worked towards a master's in Archaeology. Well, great......... but, you still have to pay for that law degree, PLUS stop being a lawyer for enough time to get a master's in Archaeology. And, somehow, this is magically going to happen with no problem!!!! It just reminds me of the old comic strip where a mathematician explains steps 1-3. then step 4 is "something amazing happens" and the problem is solved in step 5. As a classic "Renaissance Soul" by her definition, it made me angry that it was naturally assumed that dumping one job/idea/schooling and switching gears would cause not a single wrinkle in the fabric of anyone's life. I'm sorry, but that's unrealistic. So, it's great to know I'm not nuts. But, it's also very frustrating to be expected to wait for a fairy wand to wave and change my life/job/mortgage/family to suit my desires. Oh, and it's supposedly reasonable to choose to follow 4 passions at one time. Sleep. family and work, anyone? This was an incredible book. Margaret hit all of the nails right on the head. From identifying a Renaissance soul to working with people that don't understand what that is as well as how to function in a business environment, this book has all of it.If you have ever felt like you have deep passions in multiple places that do not align with each other and everyone keeps telling you to choose your one passion but you can't, then this book is for you.It is unfortunate to hear that the author has passed away because I personally feel that I could have benefited from her coaching.
