I enjoy this autobiography, despite the choppy writing style, (and 'Harvard' not having a whole lot to do with anything) because of its sincerity. Disclaimer: I am not a 'factional' LHP practitioner, don't pay any $ to an organization, and I DO believe 'humanism' or societal justice dovetails with LHP life and does not mean coddling. I believe it means respecting the light of life in oneself and others, helping create the culture you want and tear down oppressive cultures existing now, supporting oneself and others strongly. (Think 'mama bear') Living in this way with these adult considerations, as a grown citizen, IS feminist and it IS metal but you have to read the whole story to see why. Look at the 'tenets' and they are 100% affirming.In this sense, this book succeeds in encouraging & motivating the reader to check out more materials and think for themselves WHILE remembering their place in the herd... if you are under the illusion you can isolate yourself or be above the herd of fellow humans* in the basic sense, that's probably just anger talking. (If the word 'intersectional' gives you the creeps, this is not the book for you, because you are not ready to admit or analyze your place in the world.) This book drew from her own interpretations of LaVeyan Satanism and other materials, but mainly her own experiences. Because human kindness ended up being her 'higher power' in recovery, she is attempting to pay it forward by building community. Personally I wouldn't structure my activities in this way, but what I am seeing is someone who learned kindness to others & cooperation in hard times. And who was motivated by Satanism to re-create the life they originally set out to, but this time with a much stronger foundation, self made support system, and very personalized. Can't argue with that!This is basically a pep talk or love letter to the LHP but it and Don Webb's "Uncle Setnakt's Guide" are my two favorite Positive, Proactive LHP go-to books.*Yes, I have heard of the theory of Isolate Intelligence, but I don't think humans do well in literal isolation! Lilith takes a religion which has long been shamed and distorted and turns it back upright with such personal authority that it is impossible to put it down. I've read so many books this year on the subject of satanism that I cannot pin down a favorite, but I will hold this one up as THE most absolutely relatable. She truly humanizes the beliefs of our path while applying them to her own brokenness in a way which challenges and informs any reader, regardless of one's own history. Many things in this story were quite familiar to me; others were a complete surprise. It was eye-opening to follow her walk through such a damaging era and she handles the material brazenly and responsibly.I highly recommend this book to anyone, whether they identify as a satanist or not.
